On August 16, 2001, the shareholders of Peoples Trust Bank in Corydon, Indiana and English State Bank in English, Indiana agreed to consolidate, resulting in a $200 million bank. The new name, Community First Bank, became official. "We are still a solid, independent bank that is strongly rooted in this area, and we chose a new name for the bank that would reflect that," commented President & CEO, Samuel Eckart.
Peoples Trust Bank and English State Bank had a cooperative working history as sister banks under the same holding company, Community First Financial Group. "The bank's consolidation reflected the organization's goals to remain independent, strengthen our competitive position, enhance lending capabilities and broaden opportunities for growth in the future," added Mr. Eckart.
Peoples Trust Bank was a de novo bank in 1994. Led by founding CEO Vaughn Timberlake, it quickly grew to over $125 million in assets by 2001. Along the way it became known as a community leader in Harrison and Washington counties.
English State Bank celebrated its 75th birthday in 2000 and has been the community leader in Crawford County since its inception. English State Bank was the epitome of a "good" corporate citizen as you would find their employees in leadership roles throughout the county.
We remain a strong, independent bank. Banking decisions have remained local – with decision-makers working in the communities they live in and with capital of nearly $20 million. Community First Bank offers eight offices and six ATM locations throughout Harrison, Washington and Crawford counties, with our Main Office located in Corydon.
At Community First Bank we are very proud of our history and we think you will also find that our products and services are state of the art. Come visit us to see how we blend modern conveniences you want with the small-town service you deserve. Community First Bank, the people you count on.
