Terre Haute Savings Bank was established on a very simple principle: recognize a need and fill it. In the 1800's, banking services were strictly for businesses. It was not until 1869 that the idea of a mutual savings bank for individuals made its way to Terre Haute, Indiana. The Terre Haute Savings Bank was chartered by the state of Indiana and opened its doors for depositors on December 1, 1869.

Over the years, Terre Haute Savings Bank continued to serve its customers by offering new services such as home mortgages and demand accounts. It has persevered through economic highs and lows to offer such services. During the Depression of the 1930's, bank activities across America were suspended for a "banking holiday", from which many banks never recovered. Terre Haute Savings Bank was the only bank in Terre Haute to open and operate as scheduled, the morning following the great stock market crash.

The banking rooms of the 1800's have made way for multiple-department facilities, drive-through banking and 24-hour automatic teller machines, but our fundamental goals have changed very little. Since its inception, Terre Haute Savings Bank's primary mission has been to serve the savings and home ownership needs of Terre Haute and Vigo County, and this continues to be the driving force behind the Bank today.

THSB is regulated by the Indiana Department of Financial Institutions and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation.
